Temporary storage warehouse - what about the goods before customs clearance?
Sometimes the goods arrive in Poland, but cannot be declared for customs immediately. There is a missing document, a customer decision or simply more time is needed. In such situations it can be helpful to temporary storage facility - a solution that allows goods with a non-Union status to be legally stored before they are cleared.
What exactly does this form of storage consist of? What are the rules? And how many days can this option be used?

What is a temporary storage facility?
This is the place designated by KAS where you can store goods without Union status - i.e., for example, imported goods awaiting declaration for the relevant procedure.
In some cases - if there is legitimate economic need - The head of the UCS may also authorise the storage of EU goods.
Temporary storage warehouse - How long can the goods be stored?
Goods may be in temporary storage for a maximum of 90 days.
This deadline cannot be extended.
If it is not declared for a customs procedure within this time or does not leave the warehouse in accordance with the regulations, there may be consequences.
What can be done with the goods during this time?
Goods stored in this warehouse must remain unchanged.
Only activities that serve to maintaining its quality and condition, e.g:
- moisture protection,
- protection against damage,
- minor movements within the warehouse.
Not allowed:
- process the goods,
- change its technical characteristics,
- modify the appearance.
When is it worth using?
Temporary storage is a good solution if:
- the documents needed for clearance are missing,
- it has not yet been decided whether the goods are to be placed under the release, transit or e.g. processing procedure,
- you need time to organise onward transportation,
- you want to secure the goods before you decide what to do next.
